About

A journey through the spectacular Quebrada del Toro towards San Antonio de los Cobres, one of the most important towns in the Salta Puna.
We depart from Salta and travel through Campo Quijano, entering the Quebrada del Toro, a dramatic mountain corridor characterized by colorful rock formations, deep valleys, and impressive Andean landscapes.
Along the way, we pass through Santa Rosa de Tastil, one of the most important pre-Hispanic archaeological sites in northwestern Argentina, where we can appreciate the remains of an ancient settlement and learn about the region’s ancestral cultures.
We continue ascending towards the Puna until reaching San Antonio de los Cobres, located at more than 3,700 meters above sea level. The town is closely associated with the famous Train to the Clouds and offers spectacular views of the surrounding high-altitude landscapes.

4 Recommendations

Recommendations

Warm clothing, comfortable footwear, sunscreen, a hat or cap, sunglasses, and plenty of water are recommended. Due to the altitude, it is advisable to stay well hydrated, walk slowly, and avoid strenuous physical activity. A camera or cell phone with sufficient battery is highly recommended to capture the spectacular landscapes of the Quebrada del Toro and the Puna.
