Arrival at Salta Airport and transfer to the hotel. In the afternoon, city tour of Salta and its surroundings. Afterwards, we will have a technical briefing and finalize the details for the trekking excursion.

Overnight in Salta.

Breakfast and departure by regular bus to the town of San Antonio de los Cobres. After checking the luggage and backpacks, lunch boxes and water will be provided before beginning the trek.

The first part of the trail is uphill. The path is well established, with slight to moderate but continuous slopes.

As we ascend, the Quebrada del Toro gradually reveals itself in all its majesty. Slowly, the snow-capped peaks of San Miguel and Acay mountains appear behind the hills.

After approximately 3 hours of hiking, we will reach “La Virgen del Caminante,” a landmark for mountaineers in the area.

From this point, the trail continues with intermittent ascents and descents, but is mostly downhill. The final destination is the ruins of Sillón del Inca, where we will set up our first campsite. We will have free time to explore the area and this archaeological site, which once formed part of the Inca Empire.

Overnight at the campsite.

The second day begins at Sillón del Inca, following the trail that will take us above 3,000 meters above sea level. We will hike alongside one of the most beautiful agricultural production posts in the area, and, with some luck, we may spot condors flying overhead.

We will continue along the trail with a gentle ascent until reaching the highest point of the route at Abra de la Cruz, at 3,410 meters above sea level. Here, one of the most spectacular views of the journey will be revealed.

From this point, well above the clouds, we can see the entire Lerma Valley and the city of Salta. The trail then descends, offering spectacular views along the way, until we reach the location of our second campsite.

The campsite will be set up alongside local inhabitants who have their own agricultural production post. Here, we will share experiences and learn about the lifestyle of the people who currently inhabit the area.

Overnight at the campsite.

On this day, the trail takes us increasingly closer to the humid area typical of the Yungas forest.

We leave our campsite and begin the descent. The views here are completely different from those we have become accustomed to over the previous two days. After a short hike, trees begin to appear and the vegetation starts to cover more of the mountains. We begin to see rivers and waterfalls.

The trail continues on a gentle descent until reaching the point where two mountain rivers meet. From here, we continue downstream for a few more kilometers until reaching the meeting point with the vehicle that will take us back to the city of Salta.

Overnight in Salta.

After breakfast, we will depart early in the morning towards the town of Purmamarca. Upon arrival, we will discover the Hill of Seven Colors. We will then visit the church and the Handicraft Market in the main square.

After exploring the town, we will ascend along Cuesta de Lipán until reaching the impressive Salinas Grandes, one of the most visited destinations in the Puna region of Jujuy. It is an incredible place where the white landscape blends with the intense blue sky. There, you can observe the process of extracting table salt.

Return to Purmamarca and accommodation.

Overnight in Purmamarca.

After breakfast, we will depart from Purmamarca via Posta de Hornillos, continuing towards the town of Tilcara and then Huacalera. We will cross the Tropic of Capricorn and then visit the church of Uquía, where we will see the paintings of the Archangel Arquebusiers (an important remnant of the Cuzco School in the area).

We will arrive in Humahuaca, where we will visit its impressive Cathedral and the Monument to Independence (The Indigenous Man), created by sculptor Soto Avendaño.

Time for lunch.

We will then begin the approximately 42-kilometer journey to the viewpoint, crossing the agricultural valleys of Coctaca. We will ascend to 4,200 meters above sea level, where we will enjoy spectacular views of the multicolored Cerro de la Serranía del Hornocal.

After enjoying this magnificent place, we will begin the return journey to the town of Purmamarca.

After breakfast, departure towards the city of Salta to take the flight to the next destination.
