During winter, the water freezes completely, but when spring arrives, it becomes the largest gathering place for flamingos in the Puna, also known as the Andean flamingo or “Parina Pequeña,” with more than 19,000 birds. It is also a gathering place for Andean flamingos during the summer and a common nesting site for Chilean flamingos.
